Same Old..... (June 22, 2012, 06:05:44 AM) quote
I'm back.
I've got a a 60,000 track library. I've got duplicate albums which idupe scans pretty fast, marks the dupes and unchecks the boxes just fine.
Then it simply falls apart. Spinning beach ball, ages to delete even the smallest number of tracks, not responding and takes out the finder while it's at it. Force quitting is the only way out. This is with both debug toggled and not.
It's great tool when it works but right now it's not worth opening.

Slowness and non-responsiveness when deleting a large number of tracks with a large library is unfortunately a side effect of iTunes not allowing 3rd party programs to delete more than one track at a time.

So iDupe has to wait for iTunes to delete each track one by one.

For that reason iDupe has the option to copy tracks to "iDupe Remove" playlist. If you're deleting more than a few tracks, that option is highly recommended.

When iDupe is done, simply select all tracks on that playlist and press CMD-OPT-DELETE. That way iDupe will remove them all from your library at once.

Make sure to use the last option in Step 3, so that iDupe moves the media files to the trash first.

Since Yosemite upgrade iDupe has been iffy.
Initial selection of a few tracks was fine - only 42 - debug toggle mode on - it finds a few dupes ok, but on instructing it to remove them it reverts to looking at the entire library - now 70K tracks - and then grinding to a halt.....of course, who wouldn't?
Any ideas?
Best,
Martin.

There are some issues related to smart playlists I'm investigating. Do you find the same thing happens when using a user playlist?

I don't use smart playlists. This is happening in the main library.

Ah, but the Main library is a "secret" smart playlist. I'm working on the issue. In the meantime, please try copying a big selection to a user playlist and then running iDupe on the selection on that playlist. Kindly report back.

Nice!
Selected show duplicates - same album - dragged 1366 of 'em into a new playlist, scanned it and boom! 678 duplicate tracks gone.
Far more efficient than bracketing a selection in the main library.
Thanks woody.
