Refunds will not be issued for this reason because the platform is clearly specified and because handling these requests is time consuming. Each product page shows the platform, usually Mac-only, directly underneath the Buy Now button. All over this site are plenty of other indications that WBC is a Mac-oriented developer.
This policy was not an easy one to make, and we regret having to leave buyers unsatisfied. However, it was made because the rationale for pricing the software low is that there is no overhead in managing licenses and payments. WBC software is released under an honor system. It is up to the buyer to pay when satisfied.
Windows users, please don't assume because something is called "software" that it will run on your proprietary operating system. Please always check system requirements.
Of course, please feel free to give the product to a friend who has a Mac.

Ok, we're thanking you now! Thank you for your support. If you pay or donate via Kagi, you should get a confirmation from Kagi that has a thank you message. If you pay or donate via PayPal, you will just get a generic confirmation of payment received message. After you pay or donate from this site via PayPal, you should also see a thank you screen. Most of the time you should also get another thank you message from Wooden Brain Concepts directly, but an occasional payment might fall through the filter cracks or get spam blocked, etc. Sometimes also the reply messages bounce back because of your spam filters.

Why don't you use serial numbers for shareware?

Wooden Brain Concepts believes in the spirit and princple of shareware. Digital media, including software, has negligible manufacturing costs at the margins. That is, once it is produced, it makes no difference whether there are one or one billion copies out there. Aside from the negligible costs of bandwidth, web hosting, etc., and factoring some portion of the equipment used for development, the value of a software product is almost entirely in time. I would like to be compensated for my time. I do not want to spend more of my time doing things like monitoring license codes and chasing around pirates and so forth.

Therefore, all of our current software is freeware, donationware, or unrestricted shareware. This means there are no serial numbers on our shareware.

What are these nebulous things? Freeware is software that is just put out there with absolutely no expectation of being compensated. Any donations for freeware are treated like gifts, with gratitude. Donationware is put out in the spirit that if you use it regularly, you should make a donation, but it is not required. We just may sneer at you after a while. Shareware is released with the understanding that if you continue to use it, you will pay the asking fee. You are in fact buying the product, We're just not policing you.

Currently all of our featured products are supported on Tiger and Leopard. Some products may also work on Panther, or have separate, older, Panther versions available for download. However, Panther is no longer be supported. The days of the Tiger are numbered as well, unless Apple fixes some standing bugs that make it difficult for developers to build reliable products for Tiger with Leopard.

We're truly sorry you're not happy with your purchase. As explained above, the reason we can keep prices as low as they are is because we aim to maintain zero overhead for what for a bigger company would be a sales department. It is expected that you pay only after you're satisfied. If for some reason the product doesn't work as you expected when you purchased it, we will try our utmost to fix it with your co-operation. In fact your co-operation in squashing bugs also helps keep prices low: you help us improve the product. In the unlikely event that a bug cannot be fixed in a reasonable amount of time after working with you, we will happily refund your purchase.

As explained above, payment is required if the product is shareware. Once you have paid you can click a box that says "I Paid" to make the nags go away. This should be located either on the info or the settings tab for paned applications. For OmniGrowl, it is up front on the OmniGrowl tab.

It is a reference to a passage of "The Fetishism of the Commodity and its Secret," which is a section of Capital by Karl Marx:

A commodity appears at first sight an extremely obvious, trivial thing. But its analysis brings out that it is a very strange thing, abounding in metaphysical subtleties and theological niceities... It is absolutely clear that, by his activity, man changes the forms of the materials of nature in such a way as to make them useful to him. The form of wood, for instance, is altered if a table is made out of it. Nevertheless, the table continues to be wood, an ordinary, sensuous thing. But as soon as it emerges as a commodity, it changes into a thing which transcends sensuousness. It not only stands with its feet on the ground, but, in relation to all other commodities, it stands on its head, and evolves out of its wooden brain grotesque ideas, far more wonderful than if it were to begin dancing of its own free will...
